A couple of months ago I wrote about some of the many uses for coconut oil. Here are a few more:
Coconut oil can be used as a deep conditioning scalp treatment or on the ends of hair to help prevent splitting.
2. Cold Sores
Studies have shown that lauric acid found in coconut oil may help prevent the reproduction of the cold sore virus. Coconut oil can be applied to cold sores several times a day.
3. Wood Polish
Coconut oil can be used as a substitute for more traditional wood polish oils. It doesn't leave the wood with the same shine as some oils, but I was pleased with the result when I tried it.
4. Lowering Cholesterol
Taking 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil daily may aid in lowering cholesterol. High density lipoproteins, which naturally lower cholesterol, can be boosted by lauric acid found in coconut oil.
5. In Baking
Coconut oil can be used as a substitute for butter or oil when baking. There are some interesting recipes using coconut oil here.
